Freight purchasing rarely audit-proof and efficient

A challenge for plant construction and mechanical engineering

Companies in the mechanical and plant engineering industry are faced with the challenge of managing their freight purchasing efficiently and in an audit-compliant manner.

The independent logistics and organisation consultancy PROLOG-TEAM interviewed 55 selected machines and plant manufacturers on our behalf about their daily price management in freight purchasing.

  • Around 70 percent of the survey participants still use telephone, fax and e-mail as means of communication.
  • Only one fifth use special software for freight purchasing
  • Even though 70 percent of the respondents also state that compliance and revision security are important aspects of their freight purchase.

Around 27 percent of mechanical and plant engineers, for example, spend more than 30 minutes from the transport request to the award of the contract. The standard value is between 5 and 10 minutes.
